Juan Andrés Fontaine
Economy, Development and Tourism Minister, Chilean Government
Juan Andrés Fontaine holds an undergraduate degree in Commercial Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Chicago. He has been Associate Professor of Economics at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Chile for many years.
Minister Fontaine was Director of Research for the Central Bank from 1984 to 1990. He was a Partner of Fontaine Consultores, has been on the board of various companies and was a permanent columnist for El Mercurio newspaper.
Fontaine served as Economy Minister in 2010 and 2011, during the first administration of President Sebastián Piñera. During President Piñera’s second term, he was Public Works Minister from March 2018 until June 2019, when he was appointed Economy, Development and Tourism Minister.
